Daniel Michael DeVito Jr. was born on November 17, 1944, to Julia and Daniel Sr., a small-time business owner in Neptune, New Jersey. After graduating from school in 1962, DeVito started working in his sister’s beauty salon and thereafter, enrolled himself in a Cosmetology course at the New York’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts. At the institute, he fell in love with acting and decided to pursue it as a full-time career. He landed his first role in 1968 in Dreams of Glass in which he played a thug. Danny, however, did not enjoy acting in films. He, therefore, decided to try his hand in stage productions instead.

Danny was happy doing broadway. However, in 1975, Milos Forman and Michael Douglas approached him for the role of Martini in One Flew Over Cuckoo’s Nest. Danny agreed primarily because the film starred Jack Nicholson as the lead actor. Though the film was a huge success, it did nothing for DeVito’s career. Life changed three years later when Danny was offered the role of Louie DePalma in ABC sitcom Taxi. Louie DePalma is one of the most memorable TV characters and established Danny as an actor to watch out for.
