It was a tough week for Texans, yet Senator Ted Cruz decided he didn’t want to hunker down in the Lone Star state! Texas fell under a severe snowstorm, causing residents to be stuck in their homes without access to electricity, plumbing, and even food. Sadly, over 30 people died during the snowstorm.
While Texans had to brave the cold, Ted Cruz had escaped down to sunny Cancun. He stated he wanted to be a “good dad” and take his daughters on a trip after school was canceled in the state.
We’re sure the Cruz family had fun in Mexico, yet Texans had nothing to celebrate. His trip caused an uproar throughout the state. He decided to return to Texas the day after arriving in Mexico. There’s still much confusion on whether he only planned a day trip, or if he changed his plans due to the controversy.
Upon hearing the news that the senator had left Texas in the midst of one of the worst snowstorms in its history, the Twitter mob was quick to blast his actions. Journalist Ana Navarro-Cárdenas tweeted that Ted Cruz had “fled to Cancun…while his constituents are sleeping in their cars and burning furniture to stay alive.”
Model Padma Lakshmi also attacked the senator for his actions. Former House member Beto O’Rourke also snidely criticized Ted Cruz for vacationing while Texans were “freezing to death.”
Upon returning to Texas, the senator declined to give details about his vacation. He did, however, have the Houston Police Department monitor his movements due to any potential threats.
He stated that his priority was to restore power and water throughout the state. He expressed his concern for the millions of Texas who were suffering.
