Hal performed as Mark Twain in a one-man show for over 6 decades. It became one of his most well-known roles until he retired it in 2017.
Hal wrote about his difficult life in a memoir entitled “Harold: The Boy Who Became Mark Twain.” It explained how he felt lonely due to being abandoned by his parents at a young age but got over these issues thanks to a brutal work schedule and the written works of Mark Twain.
Hal’s dedication to his craft and powerful performances earned him 5 Emmys and an Oscar nomination. It also created a loyal fanbase that refused to believe reports claiming that he had died.
