Michael Landon Wet the Bed Until 12 Years Old

Michael Landon, born Eugene Maurice Orowitz, had a troubled life as a child. Despite the fact that he had an exceptionally high IQ of 154, he struggled with school and his home life was nightmarish. His mother was emotionally abusive and made several traumatizing suicide attempts that Landon, unfortunately, witnessed firsthand.

He was, however, a star athlete – breaking multiple records in his schools javelin throwing team. His athletic ability even earned him a scholarship to USC but unfortunately, an accident left him with torn ligaments in his shoulder and ended his prospects of being a career athlete.

He would go on to record several musical singles before landing his first roles in film. After starring in half a dozen films he was cast as Little Joe Cartwright on TV’s Bonanza in 1959. For 14 years, he was very much so the heart and soul of that program.

In 1974, he was cast as Charles Ingalls, the beloved patriarch of Little House on the Prairie. His next major role was as Jonathan Smith in NBC’s fantasy/drama show Highway to Heaven.

In 1991, Landon was diagnosed with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. His last TV appearance was on the The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in May . He passed away on July 1, 1991.
