Judy Garland Lived a Painful Life

Judy Garland lived a painful life. She never quite had a normal childhood since she was immediately thrust into the world of acting and theatre. She never formulated the rich, meaningful relationships that she craved and deserved. To top it off, her mental state was always fragile and prone to sensitivity. Despite her best efforts, she never quite experienced the happy life she dreamed of.

She may be best known for her role as Dorothy in 1939s Wizard of Oz or in 1954s A Star is Born, but off-screen her life was fraught with tragedy and turmoil. She had 4 marriages that ended in divorce and 1 that ended in her own death.

Throughout her life of strife, she struggled with addiction to prescription pills. She couldn’t get enough barbiturates and amphetamines to ever make her feel "normal". But that wouldn’t stop her from trying. Tragically, these chemicals would be her undoing.

Wherever she went, she seemed to leave behind a trail of pain and suffering. For those that knew her, she was always described as being highly likable but deeply insecure. She had a tremendous amount of talent and the voice of an angel, but yet again, that too wasn’t enough to keep her life going.
