In the late 2000s, after he earned his higher education from Georgetown University, John appeared on "Late Night with Conan O’Brien". Following his outstanding performance, he landed a role on "Saturday Night Live" where he worked as an actor, comedian, producer, and writer from 2008 to 2018. After he left the show, he did stand-up comedy for many television programs for the likes of Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Comedy Central. The two-time Emmy Award winner has also starred in many stand-up comedies, television series, and films including "Mulaney", "Sack Lunch Brunch", "Big Mouth", "Late Night With Seth Mayers", and "Cinderella".
