Not everyone knows the name Erin Moran, but most people will certainly know the iconic character that she played on the beloved television sitcom Happy Days during it’s decade-spanning run from 1974 to 1984. Throughout Happy Days’ run, Erin played the kid sister of the show’s main character. What started out as a fairly minor role began to take on more weight as show gained in popularity, and eventually her and her on-screen love interest, Scott Baio’s Chachi, became one of the main reasons that people tuned into the show during later seasons.
After starring in a successful sitcom, one might assume that Erin would go on to lead an incredibly peaceful and pampered existence without much stress and worry. However, after Happy Days ended, and her and Baio’s spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi was cancelled due to poor ratings, Moran found herself unable to get the kind of television work that she was looking for. Soon after her iconic role in Happy Days came to an end, Moran would begin doing battle with some serious depression, and it was a battle that she would continue to fight up until her untimely end three decades later.
Despite the success that she saw in her child and teen years, Erin Moran would go on to lead a fairly turbulent life into adulthood, especially in her final years. From botched lawsuits against CBS, the station that initially ran Happy Days, to periods of homelessness, the television actress was never quite able to find peace. Even though she ended up dying of natural causes, few who knew her were surprised when she met her untimely end on April 22, 2017. It’s a sad tale of Hollywood fame gone wrong, and one we hear all too often. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Erin Moran spent her final years.
