‘God Is Great’: Kobe Bryant’s 2006 Interview with Stephen A. Smith Provides Glimpse Into Faith

In 2006 interview with Stephen A. Smith asked Kobe Bryant what he discovered after what was likely among the most affordable times in his life and profession. The NBA legend replied with three words: “God is GREAT!”

In 2003, at the age of 24, a felony attack charge was filed against Kobe Bryant. Despite the accusers rejection to affirm and the matter being settled beyond court, Bryant’s credibility and marriage were, for a time, seriously damaged. This was the occurrence Stephen A. Smith was describing in the interview.

Appearing on the ‘Quite Frankly’ show, hosted by Smith, an NBA analyst and radio host, Bryant shared what it meant for him to get his cross and follow Jesus.

Mike Todd, the megachurch pastor of Change Church, shared the interview to his Instagram on Monday early morning.

“However what did you gain from that whole experience? Simply needing to go through what you went through?” Smith asks in the interview, not pointing out what he was talking about specifically.

“God is fantastic,” Bryant responded to.

“He chuckled a lot more than individuals realized,” Smith added. “He was an excellent basketball player, he was a fantastic dad. He enjoyed his wife Vanessa certainly, enormously. And he was a terrific buddy.”

On Sunday early morning, Kobe, together with his child Gianna and seven other people, were killed in a terrible helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. The private helicopter was headed to Gianna’s Mamba Academy basketball game.

Social network emerged on Sunday when the news broke, and it has continued to be filled with posts honoring Kobe Bryant’s life.
