Do Not Judge Life by a Single Bad Season

Imagine driving on a long and empty road. You have everything under control. Your car rockets away at a sharp speed. You feel as if nothing can ever go wrong here. Suddenly, your tire bumps into the protruded edge of a speed-breaker and you end up with a flat tire.

At that moment, you realize how out of control everything is. You learn in that moment that life is unpredictable. It is in that moment that you understand that you never actually had any control in your life. However, the moment your tire goes out but your car manages to maintain balance and you manage to escape an accident unscathed, you learn something else too. Life is not always bad, it is also good. Life also shows you mercy.

Although, your car suffered a loss, you didn’t!

Life may seem unfortunate and bad at times, but you will find that it is not defined by one bad incident or time period. It has many facets, both good and bad. The following story of a wise man clearly shows us the true meaning of life.

Once upon a time…..

In a village, long ago, there lived a wise man. This man had a beautiful steed. The horse was the only source of making money for the man. One day, the horse ran away from the man’s stable. When it ran away, the rest of the villagers visited the wise man to offer their condolences to him over the loss of such a valuable steed. The old man shrugged with the words, “Who could say? We shall see.”

A few days later, the steed returned to the man and accompanying the steed, were 12 more horses. The man had now more ways to increase his income. So, the villagers went to congratulate him on his good luck. The man said the same words. “Who could say? We shall see.”

After some time, the wise man’s son fell off the back of one of the wild horses while he was training them. He broke his leg. The villagers again condemned the accident. The wise man answered with the very words he had spoken before. A few days after the incident, all the able-bodied boys in the kingdom were taken to be enrolled in the King’s army. The wise man’s son was saved because his leg was broken. Again, the villagers congratulated the wise man but he replied to them in the same words.

Moral: You never know what life has in store for you. Don’t judge life by a single bad season.

We must learn from the example of the wise man not to focus on just ONE bad or ONE good phase that happened in our lives. Life is made up of so much more. If we live our lives following in the footsteps of the wise man, our expectations won’t disappoint us and we will quit judging our lives for either being good or bad!
