Adorable Therapy Dog Helps Children Read!

"I never had read to a dog before, or any pet," said a young boy at the Hartford Connecticut Public Library. "It’s been very fun reading to Gizmo."

Sometimes due to trauma, anxiety, or sadness, kids struggle with the fundamental skills required to learn how to read. Medical studies have shown that the presence of a calming animal, like a cute cuddly dog, can relieve the stress and help with the learning process.

Gizmo is a therapy dog with Paws For Friendship, Inc. and the Hartford, CT Public Library’s program “Paws To Read." Twice a month, Gizmo visits the library and provides a gentle atmosphere for readers who might have some trouble reading aloud to others. When Gizmo is there, the words just flow!

Gizmo also volunteers at hospitals, schools, nursing homes, fire departments and police stations, and wherever he goes, comfort and happiness are sure to follow.
