10 Riveting Facts About Murder, She Wrote

In 1984, Peter S. Fisher, Willian Link, and Richard Levinson, of the Columbo fame, created an American Crime drama targeted at the CBS’s aging audiences. At the center of the show was the 58-year-old widow, Jessica Fletcher, who was forever her own woman. A smart and sassy lady, Jessica supported her jet-setting lifestyle with the millions she made from writing mystery novels and lived a perfectly content and independent life despite not being able to drive and not having any children of her own. Though Jessica had men following her wherever she went and she did crank up the heat every once in a while, this cardigan-clad detective forever stayed committed to her deceased husband Frank.

Series producers chose actress Angela Lansbury to play the role of Jessica Fletcher. Angela’s brilliant acting and screen presence, as well as the riveting plots created by the show’s creators, ensured that Murder, She Wrote stayed in the Neilsen top 20 for 11 of its 12 seasons. In 1994, Murder, She Wrote, while competing against the iconic sitcom Friends, dropped out of the Neilsen Top 20. To revenge this, the show’s creators made an episode titled ‘Murder Among Friends’ which sees Jessica solving a murder mystery on the sets of a TV show named ‘Buds’.

It was creative writing like this, plus Angela’s brilliant acting and fashion sense, that made the show such a huge success. Do you know that there is an incredibly popular Instagram account that pays homage to Jessica’s style? In this video, we tell you about all this and more.
